It alarms me that so many Christians seem to be drawn toward socialistic ideas.
Aside from the fact that history shows us that these ideas absolutely do not work. Christians more than any other group should confidently oppose socialism.
We should understand that our fallen, sinful nature will not allow for a utopian system to be successful. No matter how well intentioned it may begin, corruption will ALWAYS eventually seep in.
Our founders who were mostly men of faith or who at the very least had great respect for Christianity understood this which is why they built in so many checks and balances.
James Madison wisely wrote, “But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.”
Socialism looks great on paper, but this side of heaven it will NEVER work.
Christians should also be skeptical of anybody who promises to eliminate poverty. In Matthew 26:11, Jesus tells us that we “will always have the poor among [us].” The only way for true equality to take place on this earth is if we are all equally poor.
Sadly, in the countries where the people buy the lie of socialism, the common man languishes in poverty while the elites hoard the wealth. Socialism doesn’t raise poor people up but rather it drags successful people down.
I do believe we will one day experience the utopia of socialism but only when we can live under the reign of Jesus Christ, the only one capable of being a benevolent dictator.
I look forward to that day!
In the meantime, while I remain on this earth, I will spend my lifetime fighting against the ideology of socialism that can and will only lead to misery and despair.
